Itanagar: The Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society (APWWS) has expressed deep concern over recent incidents highlighting the trafficking of minor girls for illegal activities within the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).
In a meeting with ICR deputy commissioner Shweta Nagarkoti Mehta on Monday, the society submitted a representation requesting immediate and decisive action to address the root causes of this issue.
The APWWS, as an apex women’s organization dedicated to safeguarding the rights and welfare of women and girls in the community, emphasized the need for urgent measures to prevent further exploitation of vulnerable individuals.
“We are deeply concerned about the trafficking of minor girls for illegal activities and urge immediate and decisive action to combat this issue,” Kani Nada Maling, the president of APWWS said.
The society in its representation advocated for the immediate cancellation of licenses of hotels and beauty parlors found to be involved in facilitating illegal activities related to the trafficking of minor girls.
They also recommended stringent measures to prevent such incidents in the future, including the mandatory production of identity cards from all hotel guests and the submission of a daily guest entry log to the authorities for scrutiny.
Proper verification of beauty parlors and other establishments to ensure compliance with regulations was also stressed, with unlicensed establishments suspected of engaging in illegal activities to be shut down.
Additionally, the APWWS highlighted the importance of enhancing security measures at all entry and exit points within the district, including key checkpoints such as Banderdewa, Gumto and Hollongi check posts.
This, the society said, is essential to intercepting and deterring individuals engaged in trafficking and other illegal activities.
The APWWS further expressed its readiness to collaborate with the district administration and law enforcement authorities to ensure the effective implementation of these measures and contribute to the eradication of trafficking and exploitation in the ICR.
After the meeting with the deputy commissioner, the APWWS team also met Capital superintendent of police Rohit Rajbir Singh, lauded his and his team’s work and extended their support.
