APWWS provides solace to mother seeking justice for son

Pasighat: “Hum toh bahut garib hai, madam log. Pata nahi kya karega. Hum ko madad karo, mera beta ko justice dilana ke liye,” pleaded Mohimang Litin, her voice trembling with grief and desperation.

The mother of the young boy who was tragically beaten to death at the Serene Rehabilitation Centre in Pasighat, Mohimang on July 20 last is now left to navigate the unbearable pain of losing her only son.

In this time of sorrow, a delegation from the Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society (APWWS) reached out to Mohimang, providing a glimmer of hope and support. The team, including president Kani Nada Maling, vice-president Yab Yazor Camdir, law coordinator advocate Oyam Binggep, and assistant auditor Engam Rumi Zirdo, visited her home in Rani Village, Pasighat.

Mohimang’s gratitude was evident as she welcomed the APWWS team, the first organization to extend a hand in her darkest hour.

She shared her anguish and the overwhelming sense of helplessness that envelops her every day.

“We are very poor, madam. I don’t know what to do. Please help us get justice for my son,” she implored.

The APWWS, with their deep understanding of a mother’s pain, offered their heartfelt support and solidarity. They assured Mohimang that they would stand by her side, fighting for justice for her beloved son.

After comforting Mohimang, the APWWS team met with Pasighat officer-in-charge, Ege Lollen, seeking updates on the investigation.

They stressed the urgency of the case and the necessity for swift justice, reflecting the collective yearning for accountability and closure.

The East Siang police have apprehended 11 individuals in connection with the case so far.

According to East Siang SP Sachin Singhal the suspects were allegedly involved in an altercation leading to Litin’s death.

SP Singhal stated that preliminary findings suggest that some inmates attempted to leave the center, resulting in a confrontation with management.

The ensuing physical punishment involving sticks and batons proved fatal for Litin, who was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Investigations also revealed that the rehabilitation center was operating without proper authorization from relevant departments.

Based on a disclosure from one of the accused, police recovered several sticks and batons used as weapons, with the seizure documented on video as per BNSS provisions.

A case under section 103(1)/3(5) Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita has been registered at the Pasighat police station.
