APSSB exam: Candidate arrested for using mobile phone

Itanagar: The Lohit police on Sunday arrested a candidate who appeared in the higher secondary level (CHSL) examination of the Arunachal Pradesh Staff Selection Board (APSSB) for allegedly using a mobile phone to cheat in the exam.

Three police personnel who were a part of the frisking team have also been suspended and an enquiry has been initiated in the case, SIT (Crime) superintendent of police and Arunachal Pradesh Police public relations officer Rohit Rajbir Singh said.

Singh said the candidate, who has been identified as Hindonso Kri (30) and is a teacher by profession, was detained from room no 17 of the Indira Gandhi Government College (IGGC), examination center in Tezu.

The SP said during the closing time of the examination, one of the invigilators heard the sound of a ringtone after which a mobile phone was found in the possession of the candidate, namely Hindonso Kri.

“The invigilators immediately detained the candidate and informed the IGGC center superintendent, examination observer and Lohit superintendent of police.  A complaint was then filed by the center superintendent following which a case under sections 420/417/188/120B of the Indian Penal Code, read with Section 66 (D) Information Technology Act, 2000, has been registered at the Tezu police station,” Singh said.

The accused has been arrested and the mobile phone along with his wallet and headphone has been seized. Also, three police personnel detailed as a frisking team have been suspended immediately, the SP said, while adding that further investigations are in progress.

A total of 2190 candidates appeared for the CHSL examination for various posts at 130 centers in 12 districts of the state on Sunday.

As many as 1278 out of the total 2190 candidates sat for the examinations at the 5 designated centers in Lohit district.
