Itanagar: The 10th edition of the Li Ning Chief Minister Veteran and Sub-Veteran State Badminton Championship-2023 concluded at the picturesque Ziro Valley of Lower Subansiri district on Saturday.
The event, hosted by the Ziro Badminton Club (ZBC) and organized by the Lower Subansiri Badminton Association (LSBA) under the auspices of the Arunachal Badminton Association (ASBA), promised and delivered top-notch badminton action, leaving fans and participants with unforgettable memories.
The four-day sporting spectacle featured 206 players from across the state participating in 246 matches across 15 diverse events, all unfolding on three meticulously prepared courts.
As the tournament reached its final stage, the women’s singles (35+) saw Taw Yania of Kurung Kumey emerge as the champion, while Tarh Kayum of Kurung Kumey claimed the silver. The bronze was shared by Bijum Pul of Anjaw and Oni Lona of West Siang.
Nich Taku representing Papum Pare district clinched the top spot in the men’s singles (35+) category, while Lower Dibang Valley’s Open Melo secured the silver for his district.
Dekio Gumja representing APPSCB and Ambita Sonam of East Kameng took home the bronze medals.
The mixed doubles (35+) category saw the pair of Papum Pare’s Nich Taku and Kamle’s Boni Yapu claim the gold medals after defeating Gumja and Kamle’s Yane Kamsar, who had to settle for silver, while the bronze went to the pair of Barailum Chaitom of Lohit and Jajim Ama of Anjaw.
In the women’s doubles (35+) category, Kurung Kumey’s Tarh Kayum and Taw Yania dominated the finals to earn gold, while the pair of Jajim Ama from Anjaw and Pema Ladon from CCBA had to settle for bronze.
Anjaw’s Bijum Pul and Papum Pare’s Taba Yapi and East Kameng’s Dabura Sonam and Yase Bagang won bronze in the event.
The 35+ men’s doubles crown went to the pair of Byabang Jamja and Dekio Gumja, who defeated Koj Tajang and Sonu Lama of Lower Subansiri in the final.
The bronze was shared by the pair of Nich Taku and S T Damo of Papum Pare and Karling Sonam and Yungte Sangyu of East Kameng.
The women’s singles (40+) saw Boni Yapu emerge as champion as she defeated Yane Kamsar of Kamle. Likha Yano and Lina Kaki representing CCBA had to settle for the bronze medals.
Lower Dibang Valley’s Open Melo continued his winning streak in the men’s singles (40+) category as he defeated Capital’s Byabang Jamja to take home the gold medal, while East Kameng’s Harang Sonam and Papum Pare’s Tania Raju were the bronze medal winners.
Meanwhile, Boni Yupu teamed with Yane Kamsar emerged victorious in the Women’s Doubles (40+) category as they got the better of Jajim Ama of Anjaw and Pema Ladon of CCBA in the ultimate battle.
The bronze was shared by Minu Mara and Yapak Nasi of Upper Subansiri and Mepung Pangia and Yase Bagang of East Kameng.
The closing ceremony was graced by former Rubber Board chairman, Likha Maj, and Lower Subansiri SP, Keni Bagra, as chief guest and guest of honour, respectively.
Also present were tournament organizing chairman, N L Togu, organizing secretary, Hano Hailang, ASBA general secretary, Bamang Tago, and tournament director and ASBA COC secretary Penya Bagra.
