Roing: A car accident along the Roing-Dambuk highway in Lower Dibang Valley district on Sunday night has sparked outrage on social media over the lack of humanity displayed by the onlookers.
The accident, which occurred around 9:20 pm, involved an SUV colliding with a tractor, resulting in a devastating fire.
One person, identified as Jeevan Lakra, approximately 30 years old and a resident of Dambuk, was charred to death. Another individual as well as the driver of the tractor sustained severe injuries.
Instead of rendering assistance, many bystanders chose to record videos and take pictures on their mobile phones, capturing the horrific scene as precious minutes passed by.
One Ato Linggi, who was with the victim in the car, bravely attempted to save him despite his own injuries.
A few others also tried to help the victim according to the video, however, it was claimed that the the deceased person’s leg got stuck between the car’s dashboard and the pedals.
Linggi’s and few other’s courageous acts stands in stark contrast to the indifference displayed by others at the scene. Linggi is currently experiencing severe shock and has been admitted to a hospital in Dibrugarh, Assam.
The lack of immediate assistance by those who chose only to make videos highlights a disturbing trend of prioritizing sensational content over human life and underscores deeper societal issues regarding empathy and civic responsibility.
In critical moments like these, the actions of bystanders can be the difference between life and death, making their behavior particularly disheartening.
Jeevan was a close aide of the newly elected Dambuk MLA, Puinnyo Apum, who treated him like a family member.
Despite social media reports suggesting that Jeevan was the son of Apum, these claims turned out to be false.
We are yet to succeed in reaching out to the police for further details.
