Drug Bust: Papum Pare police seize 230 kg of cannabis, arrest 2 traffickers     

Doimukh: The Papum Pare police has apprehended two individuals, identified as Mohamad Rasidul Islam and Phurpa Tashi Langla and seized a substantial quantity of cannabis (ganja), estimated to be worth lakhs of rupees from them.

Papum Pare superintendent of police, Taru Gusar, revealed that the Doimukh police team, acting on credible information, successfully dismantled a drug trafficking operation carried out by the suspects.

A police case has been registered in connection with the incident under Section 20(c) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.

SP Gusar informed that the police received a tip-off about a car with registration number AS 01 JC 2578 coming from Kalaktang in West Kameng district, transporting a significant quantity of Cannabis intended for sale in the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR). Consequently, a team from Doimukh Police Station intercepted the vehicle at Hara Hapa.

“In the presence of an executive Magistrate and independent witnesses, the police conducted a thorough search of the vehicle resulting in the discovery of suspected cannabis weighing approximately 108.723 kilograms in the possession of Mohamad Rashidul Islam,” the SP said.

The police seized both the cannabis and the vehicle taking the alleged offender into custody. Subsequently, the accused was presented before the court and remanded in custody for seven days.

Following further interrogation, the accused disclosed information about the source of the procured cannabis. In response, a police team was dispatched to Kalakthang, where they apprehended Phurpa Tashi Langla, identified as the primary supplier.

Approximately 118 kilograms of cannabis were seized during this operation.
