Itanagar: The Nyishi Elite Society (NES) honored several academic high-achievers and professionals from the Nyishi community during their 19th Annual Academic Excellence and Professional Achievement Awards 2023.
The event took place at the NES Research & Heritage Center in Richi Jullang near here on Monday.
Addressing the gathering, NES president, Prof Tana Showren, praised the outstanding academic performance of Nyishi students, especially girls, and encouraged them to maintain their dedication to becoming society’s torchbearers.
He also expressed hope that the professional awardees would uphold strong work ethics and contribute positively to their respective fields.
Prof Showren explained that the NES Academic Excellence and Professional Achievement Awards programme is a flagship initiative to motivate and engage society members, recognizing excellence and contributions to their careers and professions.
This year, the programme honored those who have dedicated their lives to society and the nation.
Home minister Bamang Felix lauded NES’s efforts and highlighted the significance of recognizing past, present, and future achievements. He emphasized the need for a similar focus on the performance of male students.
The event awarded 18 meritorious students, 57 officers, and 3 distinguished professional achievers from the Nyishi community.
In addition to the student awards, the event recognized three individuals for their outstanding professional achievements and social contributions.
Secretary of Education, Pige Ligu, was acknowledged for his induction into the AGMUT cadre of IAS by the UPSC while retired IFS officer Tapu Gapak and former NES president Bengia Tabb were also felicitated.
The top three students in both Class X and XII (Arts, Science, and Commerce) were honored for their academic excellence. Six students who successfully cracked the Joint Entrance Examination (Advance) for IIT admission and the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for MBBS received certificates and scholarships.
Notable Class-X awardees included Sania Blange (95.60%), Taring Yajer (95.20%), and Kipa Janma (94.80%).
In Class-XII Humanities, top performers were Tamchi Nyakum (92.80%), Nikam Loffa, and Migom Kina (92.60%), with Bengia Yemin (91.80%) securing the third position.
In the commerce stream, Tadar Jeinam (95.80%), Zenith Natung (90%), and Yangfo Yakar (88%) took the top honors. In the Science stream, Tam Sai (88.20%), Tarh Rinium (87.40%) and Nabam Ani (87.00%) were awarded scholarships.
In the competitive exams, students like Tarh Haniya, Neelam Doin, Chukhu Nyia Loma, Tai Chumnya, Gichik Mumpa, and Langha Lawrence were recognized for their impressive achievements.
Earlier, NES general secretary, Heri Maring, provided an overview of the event’s objectives and motivations in his opening speech. Dr Taw Ane Dipu, an officer who had received academic and professional excellence awards since Class 10, expressed her gratitude to NES.
The event’s organizing chairman, Nabam Takar, and organizing secretary Likha Teji also shared their thoughts.
The programme saw the participation of senior members of society, including renowned educationist, Dr Joram Begi, ministers, MLAs, ZPCs, former and current NES executive members, members of ANSU and ANYA, awardees, parents, cultural troupes, and the general public.
