Aadhaar for all: Arunachal launches ALBR for youngest citizens

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh has achieved a significant milestone by officially launching the Aadhaar Linked Birth Registration (ALBR) initiative.

The programme aims to streamline the Aadhaar enrollment process for children in the state.

Arunachal now stands as the second state in the North Eastern Region (NER), following Nagaland, to implement the ALBR system. This visionary programme simplifies the process of enrolling children aged 0-5 years by linking it with their birth registration, officials said.

The inauguration of this transformative service took place under the distinguished presence of Women & Child Development (WCD) Secretary, Mimum Tayeng, alongside UIDAI Director Col Abhishek Kaushik, Economics & Statistics Director Bebing Megu, and WCD Director T P Loyi.

Tayeng emphasized the pivotal role that ALBR will play in enrolling newborns and children in the 0-5 years age group, contributing to the accurate record-keeping of beneficiary information on the Poshan tracker.

She urged state government officials to collaborate effectively to ensure the successful implementation of ALBR in all districts of Arunachal, ensuring that no child is left without access to the various social welfare schemes designed for their well-being.

Col Kaushik elaborated that upon successful enrollment, children would receive a distinctive blue-colored ‘Baal Aadhaar,’ easily distinguishable from standard Aadhaar cards.

He extended his congratulations to the Government of Arunachal Pradesh for swiftly implementing ALBR and commended the tireless efforts of the WCD department for launching this initiative in the state within a remarkably short timeframe.

Kaushik also applauded the consistent dedication exhibited by the nodal department, the Department of Economics and Statistics (DES), and all other registrars in the state for delivering Aadhaar services to residents in one of India’s most challenging terrains.

In a concerted effort to ensure widespread access to this service across districts, the state’s Directorate of Economics and Statistics, which also serves as the registrar for birth and death, has been appointed as the nodal department overseeing all Aadhaar enrollment and update activities.

UIDAI has extended unwavering support to the states by conducting workshops, facilitating door-to-door enrollments, and reaching out to remote areas to guide and assist them in embracing the Aadhaar ecosystem.

UIDAI’s Regional Office in Guwahati has worked closely with the Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Arunachal Pradesh, to facilitate Aadhaar-related activities in the state, the officials added.
