Itanagar: The All Arunachal Pradesh Wushu Association (AAPWA) conducted the eagerly awaited state-level Khelo India Wushu women’s league at the Sangay Lhaden Sports Academy Complex in Chimpu near here on Tuesday.
Aligned with the observance of National Sports Day, the event encompassed participants in senior, junior, and sub-junior categories, covering both Taolu and Sanda disciplines.
Renamed “Achieving Sports Milestone by Inspiring Women Through Action” (ASMITA) by the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs, the Khelo India women’s league saw the participation of 14 districts, aimed at empowering and promoting women’s involvement in Wushu.
The event’s inauguration was graced by Arunachal Pradesh Industrial Development and Financial Corporation Ltd Chairman, Walong Rajkumar. Notable figures, including IMC Corporator Gyamar Taz, were also present to show their support.
Rajkumar and Taz lauded AAPWA’s proactive initiative, offering words of encouragement to female athletes and urging them to exhibit their utmost dedication during the games.
A notable achievement, the gold medalists secured direct qualification for the Zonal Khelo India Wushu women’s league scheduled for November 2023 in Kolkata. This league provided a platform to spotlight the skills and potential of young female athletes within Arunachal Pradesh, fostering an environment for them to excel in Wushu.
The closing ceremony witnessed Director of the Sports Authority of Arunachal, Gumnya Karbak, and IMC Corporator Gora Talang extend their commendations to the players, acknowledging their unwavering commitment and relentless effort.
The Khelo India women’s league holds paramount significance in the pursuit of gender equality in sports. By establishing an exclusive platform for women athletes, the league aimed to not only boost their participation but also enhance their prowess in Wushu.
The Khelo India program, introduced during the 2017-18 period, seeks to rejuvenate the sports culture at the grassroots level in India, establishing a robust framework for all sports played within the country and propelling India to a distinguished status on the global sports map.
AAPWA President Tach Tadar expressed profound gratitude to the players, technical committee, organizing committee, executive members, and fans for the resounding success of the league. Furthermore, he extended appreciation to the officials of the Sports Department, authorities of Sangay Lhaden Sports Academy, and the National Centre of Excellence, SAI, for their invaluable support.
