Itanagar: Former hydropower chief engineer R K Joshi has been appointed as the chairman of the Arunachal Pradesh State Electricity Regulatory Commission (APSERC) while advocate Nich Rika has been designated as member of the commission, as per an official announcement made by the state government.
The swearing-in ceremony took place on Tuesday where deputy chief minister Chowna Mein administered the oath of office and secrecy to Joshi and Rika for their respective positions.
Mein congratulated the newly appointed officials and highlighted their crucial roles in advancing the APSERC’s scope for the benefit of the public.
MLA and advisor to the power minister Balo Raja, chief secretary Dharmendra, principal secretary Sharat Chauhan, hydropower commissioner Ankur Garg, secretary (power) Ajay Kumar Bisht and chief engineers from the power and hydropower department attended the event.
The APSERC is vested under Section 86 of the Electricity Act, 2003 with the responsibility of discharging various functions including determining the tariff for generation, supply, transmission and wheeling of electricity, wholesale, bulk or retail, as the case may be, within the state, facilitate intra-state transmission and wheeling of electricity.
The commission can also advise the state government in matters such as promotion of competition, efficiency, economy in activities of the electricity industry and investment in electricity industry, among many others.
