Itanagar: In a significant breakthrough, the Capital Police have successfully apprehended a gang involved in a series of two-wheeler thefts in the region. Four individuals have been arrested, and nine stolen two-wheelers have been recovered, leading to the resolution of four theft cases.
The operation was initiated following the filing of a First Information Report (FIR) at the Itanagar Police Station. The complaint stated that a Scooty with registration number AR 02-8640 was stolen from C-Sector on the previous night. Additionally, another Scooty bearing registration number AR-01N-4242 was reported stolen from Jollang on the midnight of June 25th.
To combat the recent surge in two-wheeler thefts, Itanagar SDPO, Kamdam Sikom, formed a specialized team comprising Pawan Kr Yadav, IPS (Prob), Itanagar police station officer-in-charge inspector K Yangfo, inspector O Ronrang, sub-inspector Binam Pertin, head constables Kamgo, Thomong, Aniyam and Kungkho and constables Sandeep, Basar, Gelem, Rinchin, Wangsu, Nik, Bodo, Ligu, Tachang and Jerry.
The team conducted extensive investigations, including the study of CCTV footage, night vigilance, and gathering of local intelligence over several days. Their efforts bore fruit as they apprehended three individuals identified as Tago Takang (18), Nabam Deram (18), Karte Sangdo (18), and also apprehended one juvenile in connection with the theft cases. One of the stolen vehicles was also recovered.
Further interrogation of the arrested individuals led to the recovery of eight Scooties and one bike from the ICR, Barajuli (Assam), and Sootea (Assam) areas. The gang specifically targeted vehicles parked in poorly lit public places without adequate safety devices, taking advantage of the cover of darkness to commit their crimes. The stolen vehicles were disposed of at distant locations to avoid detection.
With these breakthroughs, the Capital Police have successfully resolved four cases. The investigative team is continuing their questioning in order to unravel more theft cases registered across various police stations within the ICR.
The Capital Police have urged residents to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to safeguard their vehicles, such as using proper lighting, installing safety devices, and parking in secure areas. They have also advised the public to report any suspicious activities or individuals to the authorities to help prevent further incidents of two-wheeler theft.
