Preserving culture: Khandu launches textbooks in 8 tribal languages

Itanagar: In a positive step towards preserving endangered languages, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Sunday launched the third-language textbooks for eight tribes of the state published by the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) here.

The textbooks which will be introduced in Classes VI and VIII from the next academic session have been published in eight languages – Nyishi, Wancho, Galo, Tagin, Kaman, Taraon, Idu and Tangsa.

Chief Minister Khandu, who launched books on the sidelines of the Teacher’s Day celebrations later, took to twitter to congratulate the SCERT and the community based organizations (CBOs) of the state for coming up with the textbooks.

“Saving language, preserving culture.  Launched today books on 3rd language for Class VI-VIII. A significant step towards preservation of endangered languages. I congratulate SCERT & CBOs of Nyishi, Wancho, Galo, Tagin, Kaman, Taraon, Idu & Tangsa community for the good work,” the chief minister said.

Khandu on the day also congratulated Duda Sora, a head teacher of the APP Complex Government Upper Primary School in Aalo, West Siang district who was conferred the National Teachers Awards 2021 by the Union Ministry of Education on Sunday.

“Your commendable service to improve learning environment in the school is praiseworthy.

My hearty congratulations Shri Duda Sora Ji on being conferred with ‘National Awards to Teachers, 2021’. Thank you @EduMinOfIndia for honouring the efforts of teacher,” the chief minister tweeted.

Sora (56) was among the 44 meritorious teachers who received the prestigious award from President Ram Nath Kovind on the occasion of Teacher’s Day. A native of Taba Sora Village in West Siang district, Sora has been serving as a government teacher for around 34 years.
