Itanagar: As many as 18 players from the newly created Keyi Panyor district will represent their region at the 11th edition of Chief Minister’s Sub-Veteran & Veteran State Badminton Championship 2024. The prestigious event is scheduled to take place in Tezu, Lohit district, from December 3 to 6.
A jersey unveiling ceremony was held on Sunday evening at Jollang, where the players were presented with their official jerseys and tracksuits ahead of the competition. The event marked a historic moment for Keyi Panyor, as this is the first time the district is sending a sporting delegation to a major state-level sporting event.
Toko Chada, the vice-president of the Keyi Panyor District Olympics Association (KPDOA), expressed his excitement and best wishes for the players. He emphasized the significance of the event, calling it a landmark achievement for the district.
“This moment will be remembered as the beginning of a new chapter in Keyi Panyor’s sporting journey,” he said.
Toko Soni, the president of KPDOA, also encouraged the players, particularly the veterans, urging them to give their best performance.
“Your participation is not just about competing, it’s about setting a precedent for future generations to follow,” Soni remarked. He stressed that the players’ involvement in this championship will inspire the youth of Keyi Panyor to engage in sports and pursue athletic careers.
Senior shuttler and host of the event N L Togu said the district’s first-ever sports delegation at such an event is expected to create a lasting impact on the community. “The players’ participation will not only bring honor to Keyi Panyor but also motivate the younger generation to embrace sports as a means of personal development and achievement,” he said.
Keyi Panyor District Badminton Association (KPDBA) general secretary Gem Tayam and other senior players also addressed the event.
