Tawang: In a significant crackdown on narcotics, the police here on Thursday seized around 48.4 grams of suspected heroin worth approximately ₹1.2 lakh.
This operation marks the largest-ever seizure made by the Tawang police so far, officials said.
Acting on a tip-off, the police arrested 10 individuals in multiple raids conducted across the Tawang township.
The operation was initiated after receiving reliable information that an individual, identified as Sunil Magar alias Michael, was enroute to Tawang with suspected narcotics.
A team led by Tawang deputy superintendent of police Tasso Kato, Tawang police station officer-in-charge inspector Niyi Angu, sub-inspector Bapok Lego, head constable Rinchin Tsewang and constables Jambey Tsering and Tashi Phuntsok accordingly conducted extensive raids across the Tawang market and other areas.
The raids resulted in the arrest of 10 individuals, including three habitual peddlers namely Magar from Parade Ground, Sangey Khum from Old Market area and Lobsang Tseten from the New Market area.
Seized items include 33 plastic vials containing suspected heroin, 12 empty vials, 10 syringes, 9 mobile phones, and cash amounting to ₹13,000, suspected to be sales proceeds.
A case under sections 21(b)/25/27(a)/29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 has been registered at the Tawang police station and endorsed to sub-inspector Bapok Lego for investigation.
The entire operation was carried out under the supervision of Tawang SP Dr D W Thongon.
