Itanagar: Former Miss Arunachal Roshni Dada has clarified that the comments made by her on ‘women’s freedom in Arunachal’ during the introduction round of MTV Supermodel of the Year Season 2 was misinterpreted and she never meant to hurt any individual, community or the state as a whole.

Dada had sparked controversy after she claimed that “there was less freedom for a girl child in the community she belonged to and more preference was given to a male child.”

She had also said that “Arunachal did not have proper photographers and fashion shows”.

Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday evening, Dada said all the comments that she made in the show were based on her personal life story and it was not intended to hurt anyone. Also Read: Arunachal woman domestic violence victim rescued in Uttarakhand

“When I spoke about ‘freedom’ (women’s freedom) in the show I meant to state that modeling as a career is not considered safe for a girl in Arunachal and more focus is given on education. I never meant to say that the girls in my state have no freedom and they cannot choose where they want to go or what they want to wear,” she said.

Dada said she wanted to make a clarification earlier; however, she could not do the same following personal reasons.

“I was not in the right state of mind as I was being constantly trolled on social media. I also had exams for which I couldn’t speak up earlier,” she said.

With regards to Arunachal not having proper photographers, the state’s former beauty pageant winner said she never meant to say that there are no good photographers.

“I’ve worked with many photographers from the state and they are excellent. What I meant to say is that there are no photographers working as professionals,” she said.

Dada said she had never thought that her statements would cause such a big controversy in the state and also lead to the trolling of Miss Arunachal Organization in various social media platforms.

“The Miss Arunachal Organization is not to be blamed for my statements. I treat every single member of the organization as a family and they have always supported me. Any words said in the show were not to defame any individual or organization and rather was just a comparison between a pageant and modeling reality show,” she added.

Dada said she also spoke about many other things which were not shown on television.

I did speak about the greatness of Arunachal and its people, the support of the state government and each and every organization in my journey which was cut from the telecast, she said while appealing all to continue supporting her.

Miss Arunachal Organization managing director Tai Roket said that the organization has no right to dictate or influence Dada as she has already completed one year of her contract with them.

“Whatever Dada said on the show are her own words and opinions and has nothing to do with the Miss Arunachal Organization which many of the people seem to think and have been commenting on social media,” Roket said.

The Arunachal Regulatory Board of Calendar Events (ARBCE) had served a legal notice to the Miss Arunachal Organization last week asking it to clarify its stand on the remarks made by Dada, who is a former Miss Arunachal (2019).

Roket further appealed to the people to refrain from trolling Dada on social media and instead support the girl who is representing the state in a national platform.

A native of Arunachal’s East Kameng district, Dada scripted history when she became the first Arunachalee woman to participate in MTV Supermodel of the Year Season 2.

She also represented the state in the FBB Colors Femina Miss India 2019.
