Police busts major drug racket in Tirap, 5 arrested

Itanagar: The Arunachal Pradesh police has busted a major drug racket in Khonsa, the headquarters of Tirap district, and seized drugs worth Rs 2 lakh.

Officials said the police have also arrested 5 persons including 3 women during the raids carried out on Tuesday.

The five arrested are Shomnai Losu (38), Phiphot Losu (25), Phedai Wangsa (24), Phamsa Wangsa (30) and Thaisii Raomai (38). A case under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act has been registered against them. 

While Shomnai and Phiphot used to peddle drugs from Longding to Khonsa, Phedai was involved in harboring the drug peddlers, officials said.

Phamsa on the other hand was arrested for financing the peddling processes while Thaisii, besides being a hardcore drug addict, also used to assist the peddlers in selling the drugs.

Acting on a tip off, a police team under the supervision of Tirap superintendent of police Kardak Riba carried out raids around the Khonsa Township during which they recovered around 59.14 grams of suspected heroin, an insulin syringe with heroine solution in it and several other materials used to consume the banned drug.   

Two Aadhaar cards and cash amounting to Rs 40,000/ were also received from the arrested individuals.

The entire operation was carried out in the presence of Khonsa executive magistrate D K Thongdok.
