Arunachal’s Uncle Moosa chosen for Chennai award

Itanagar: Noted educational activist and Padma Shri awardee Sathyanarayanan Mundayoor has been selected for the prestigious Dakshina-Ravunni Menon Award-2021 instituted by Dakshina, a Chennai-based cultural organization.

The award recognizes individuals and organizations that have rendered selfless service to the community and carries a cash prize of ₹50,001, a citation and a sculpture.

Mundayoor, fondly known as Uncle Moosa has dedicated his entire life to promoting educational standards in Arunachal Pradesh. He has been a pioneer of the Lohit Youth Library Movement that has promoted several youth libraries in eastern Arunachal for fostering a culture of reading among the youth.

In recognition of his yeoman’s services, the nation honoured him with the Padma Shri in 2020.       

Thanking the Arunachal Pradesh unit of the All India Malayalee Association and the Kerala Kala Samskarika Vedi that recommended his name for this prestigious national award, Mundayoor said the award amount would be utilized for reading promotion activities in Arunachal Pradesh.
