Arunachal’s Mary Malling awarded DG NCC commendation card

Itanagar: Mary Malling, the lone National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadet from Arunachal Pradesh to participate in the Republic Day parade at Rajpath, New Delhi this year has been awarded the prestigious Director General Commendation Card by NCC director general Lt Gen Gurbirpal Singh.

Malling was awarded the commendation card in recognition of her effort and dedication to be a part of the NCC’s marching contingent at Rajpath.

The DG Commendation Card is awarded to NCC’s whole time officers, associate officers (ANO), under officer instructors, sergeant major instructors and cadets for their outstanding acts or deeds in the field of adventure sports, training or for outstanding contribution in social or cultural activities.

A native of Upper Subansiri district, Malling, who is a junior under officer in the NCC, contributed immensely towards Covid-19 relief work in her college and locality during which she also contracted the virus.

Besides that, her zeal and dedication to attend the NCC Republic Day Camp (RDC)-2022 was exemplary as she not only managed to make it to the camp but was also among the first senior wing (SW) cadets fielded for the NCC’s Republic Day marching contingent at Rajpath.

The RDC is the most prestigious annual event of NCC and provides several life-time experiences for participating youth including the Republic Day parade and the Prime Minister’s NCC Rally.

Cadets from 17 NCC directorates from various states participated in the month-long RDC this year.

The RDC cadets are normally selected after several rounds of rigorous screening at Groups and Directorates level.

Each cadet has to undergo four to five screenings before reaching the RDC.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu took to twitter to congratulate Malling for the award.

“Proud of you Junior Under Officer, Kumari Mary Malling of NCC for bringing laurel to Arunachal. Congratulations on being awarded Director General Commendation Card by Lt Gen Gurbirpal Singh, DG NCC in recognition of her dedication as part of the marching contingent at Rajpath,” the chief minister said.
