Arunachal: Youth Congress protests Assam CM’s jibe at Rahul Gandhi

Itanagar: The Arunachal Pradesh Youth Congress (APYC) on Monday staged a protest here against Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for his controversial ‘father-son’ remark on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

The Youth Congress also burnt the effigy of Sarma and appealed Prime Minister Narendra Modi to sack him from his post as the chief minister of Assam.

The APYC protest comes days after Sarma criticized Rahul Gandhi while stating that he seeks proof of the surgical strike carried out by the India Army’s in Pakistan in 2016 and airstrike in 2019.

Sarma, while addressing an rally an election rally in Uttarakhand had further asked whether the BJP had ever demanded proof of him being the “son of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi” and he had no right to demand proof from the Army.

Sarma had later defended his statement saying that the Congress was misinterpreting his remark.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the protest, APYC President Tarh Jhony said Sarma has made immature and personal attacks on Rahul Gandhi and his family and he has to issue an apology for the same.

“We want him (Sarma) to know that not only Assam but even the people of Arunachal are angry with him. He has lost his maturity and is not fit to become the chief minister of Assam so PM Modi should sack him at the earliest,” Jhony said.

The Youth Congress said that they would also carry out protests against Sarma during his visit to Itanagar on February 20 to attend the Statehood Day celebrations.
