Arunachal: Three arrested for illegal earth cutting

Itanagar Capital Region DC Talo Potom

Itanagar: As many as three persons who were allegedly engaged in illegal earth cutting have been arrested by the ICR district administration from the Nirjuli area near here.

The three individuals were arrested by Itanagar Capital Region (ICR) deputy commissioner Talo Potom on Sunday, officials said.

The excavators used for the earth cutting process have also been seized by the administration.

The ICR district magistrate had in May this year banned all forms of illegal earth cutting in the Itanagar Capital Region until further notice.

Officials said the administration has also appointed a dedicated administrative officer to look into such instances and contain the earth cuttings and encroachments taking place in the capital region.

“The district administration has zero tolerance against such illegal activities as it may lead to loss of life and properties. Such activities need to be regulated and if at all it is to be permitted, we have to make sure it does not hamper the ecology of life and properties,” Potom said.

He has further sought the cooperation of all the administrative officers, police and the public to prevent such illegal earth cuttings in the ICR.

Bridge inspection: DC Potom on Sunday also inspected the under construction bridge connecting the Naharlagun helipad area with Yupia road in Borum near here.

“The bridge is of utmost importance, as once completed, it would ease the traffic congestion in the Naharlagun area to a great extent,” the DC said, while adding that the said bridge is expected to be open for traffic by March 2022.

Potom also visited a few other under construction bridges like the one in Pachin and the other connecting Naharlagun railway station to Lekhi on the day.

Potom  said the Pachin bridge can be utilized to connect D- Sector and Polo Colony to Pappu Nallah in the future.

“This bridge can also be utilized to connect Chimpu directly without passing through Itanagar,” he opined.
