Arunachal: Karatekas, Powelifters felicitated

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh sports and youth affairs minister Mama Natung on Wednesday felicitated the karatekas and powerlifters of the state for bagging a total of 14 medals in their respective disciplines at the national level.

The karateka and powerlifters managed to bring home seven medals each in the recently held Inter-University Karate Championship at Haryana and National Bench Press, Deadlift & Powerlifting Championship at Gujarat respectively.

While the karate team won one gold, two silver and four bronze medals in the competition, the powerlifters bagged three gold, three silver and one bronze medal in the national championship.

Speaking to the reporters later, Natung said that the felicitation of winners of national and zonal level competition has been a tradition in the state.

This, he said, would encourage and motivate the athletes to work hard and continue bringing laurels for the state.

“We are happy that our athletes are shining at the national and international levels and this could only be possible with the support and dedication of the respective sports associations, the officials of the department of sports and youth affairs and the Sports Authority of Arunachal,” the minister said.

Natung also assured to provide the required assistance from the sports department to an injured karateka who is presently undergoing treatment at New Delhi.
