Itanagar: The Upper Subansiri police have launched a manhunt for one Pakbin Sikom (30) who allegedly molested a minor on Wednesday and has been absconding since, the police said on Friday.

Speaking to NewsFy, Upper Subansiri superintendent of police in-charge T Bage said the police have formed three teams to trace out Sikom, native of Sikarijo village, whose whereabouts are yet to be ascertained.

“We have formed three teams while the local Child Welfare Committee and the victim’s family members are also helping us in the case,” Bage said.

He said that a case under section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code and as well as relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 has been registered at the local police station against the accused.

The SP in-charge also informed that the 8-year-old victim has been discharged from the hospital and her health is stable as of now.

“She is with her family members at present,” Bage said.

If police sources are to be believed, the alleged accused is the victim’s brother-in-law.
