Successful spinal surgery brings hope at Tawang hospital

Tawang: A significant medical milestone was achieved at the Khandro Drowa Sangmo (KDS) district hospital here as a groundbreaking spinal surgery was successfully performed on a 42-year-old male resident of Gyankhar village.

The patient had been afflicted with a D7 fracture leading to paraplegia (paralysis of the legs and lower body, typically caused by spinal injury or disease), a press release informed.

This intricate surgery involved pedicle screw fixation coupled with decompression, a procedure essential for the patient’s well-being and future mobility.

The medical team responsible for this achievement consisted of spine surgeon Dr Joydep Ghosh from Apollo Hospital, Guwahati who lent his expertise to the surgery, following an invitation by the KDS ortho surgeon Dr Dukhum Magu.

Also to play a pivotal role in leading the surgical team and ensuring the operation’s success was Dr Dukhum Magu, an ortho surgeon and Dr Ashish Pao who attributed to a proficient anesthesia administration. Dr Pao’s expertise was invaluable in ensuring the patient’s comfort and safety throughout the procedure.

A team of other committed professionals in the operation theatre ensured a seamless execution of the procedure as hospital medical superintendent, Dr N Namshum, diligently monitored the entire operation, ensuring that the process adhered to the highest medical standards.

District Medical Office in-charge Dr Rinchin Neema also provided unwavering support and effective coordination throughout the surgery enhancing the overall efficiency of the operation.

The collective efforts of this skilled and dedicated team resulted in the surgery’s resounding success. This achievement represents a significant advancement in medical expertise, offering hope and healing for many more individuals in the future, the release added.
