Arunachal: Monpa apex body forms think-tank

Tawang: Monpa Mimang Tshokpa (MMT), the apex body of the people of the Mon region, has formed a knowledge arm so that the people of the region are better prepared for future challenges and develop a comprehensive view for a future-ready community.

The think-tank is called Nyam-ShibLhen-Tsog.

MMT secretary-general Namgey Tsering said the think-tank will engage in scientific and evidence-based analysis of the challenges before the region and provide policy prescription.

“This may inter alia include issues related to climate, population and socio-economic conditions. The body may engage experts to replicate the best practices from across the world, which are in consonance with the ethos of the community,” he said.

Apart from acting as an advocacy platform, the think-tank would develop and nurture the future generations of Monyul by providing mentorship and scholarship to pursue professional careers, administrative jobs and degrees from top universities of the world, Tsering said.

“The body will also work to develop a global network of Monpas, build relationships and help bring investments and expertise to the region. The organisation will provide a platform for the diaspora to engage with the region and vice-versa,” he said.

The think-tank will hold seminars, workshops and round-table discussions which will include a better understanding of the fellow tribes of Arunachal Pradesh and build bridges for peaceful and cordial relations.
