ITANAGAR : The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) has lodged an FIR against Border Roads Organization (BRO), Kimin chief engineer Pramod Kumar and other officials for “renaming” Kimin in Arunachal Pradesh and showing it as part of Assam during a programme attended by raksha mantra Rajnath Singh last week.
The union lodged the FIR at the Itanagar police station on Tuesday.
Along with the FIR, the AAPSU has also served a 10-day ultimatum to the BRO to apologise to the people of the state for the act.
AAPSU president Hawa Bagang said there should be an immediate investigation against the chief engineer. He also said the union will soon discuss the matter with the state government.
“AAPSU has also decided to ‘gherao’ the GREF camps across the state if the BRO fails to apologise to the state and its people. If they fail to do so, the BRO should leave the state,” Bagang said.
If they (BRO) retaliate against the students during the gherao, the union will take its own course of action, he said.
Bagang also alleged huge corruption in the BRO and asked the state special intelligence cell and vigilance team from the central government to investigate the organisation.
AAPSU general secretary Tobom Dai said the BRO had sabotaged the territorial integrity of the state with boundary disputes with the adjoining Assam not yet resolved.
“The BRO’s act was intended to create dispute between the neighbours and also to disrupt the federal set-up of the country,” he added.
Kimin, an ADC headquarters in Arunachal’s Papum Pare district was referenced by the BRO as being part of Assam during defence minister Singh’s visit to the town to inaugurate 12 border roads built by the organisation.
Singh had later tweeted about attending the programme and shared a statement of his ministry that suggested the event was held in Assam’s Lakhimpur district.
During the inauguration it was also noticed that several sign boards displaying Arunachal’s name were covered with white paste while communication shared by the BRO regarding the inauguration programme also mentioned that the event was being held in Bilgarh, Assam.
The white pastes have now been removed from the sign boards.
