IMC mayor assures support for growth of badminton in state

The 5th Sub-Junior State Ranking Badminton Tournament got underway at the Dorjee Khandu Indoor Badminton Stadium in Itanagar on Friday.

Itanagar: Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) mayor Tame Phassang on Friday assured to confer all possible support for the upliftment of badminton in the state.

Phassang gave the assurance while addressing the inaugural function of the 5th Sub-Junior State Ranking Badminton Tournament at the Dorjee Khandu Indoor Badminton Stadium here.

The event is being organized by the Arunachal State Badminton Association (ASBA).

The mayor said, like several other sports, there are equal opportunities in badminton too and many Arunachalee players have already represented the state in various national and international competitions.

“Now we also have a dedicated international coach for badminton in Arunachal and all we need is a little push,” he said, while appealing the chief minister, deputy CM and sports minister to extend all possible support to the coach so that Arunachal can produce quality players in the coming days.

Phassang further urged the players to maintain the sportsman spirit throughout the event.

“Discipline, determination and dedication is the mantra to achieve your goal,” he said, while encouraging the young players to give their best.

He also appreciated ASBA for organizing the event in a grand manner.

ASBA secretary Bamang Tago informed that the tournament would be held in the Under 9, 11, 13 and 15 categories for both boys and girls.
