Itanagar: Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) mayor Tame Phassang on Friday assured all out support for the preservation of indigenous folk music as well as the cultures of the state.
Speaking at the valedictory function of the five-day workshop on Hindustani Classical Vocal organized by the department of art and culture here, Phassang said the IMC’s social justice branch is there to encourage youth in art and culture activities.
Praising the department for organizing the event, Phassang said similar events should be organized on a large scale, so that our youth concentrate on fruitful activities and not be inclined to anti-social activities or drug abuse.
We all know that our youths have immense potential in sports and in art and culture, they only need a proper platform, he said.

Phassang said that preservation of indigenous culture and folk music will be a boon for the state’s tourism.
Tourists come here not to see the buildings and other infrastructures but to study or see the state’s rich cultures and traditions, Phassang said.
Among others, cultural affairs secretary Tai Kaye, civil aviation director Tamuna Messarm, arts and culture director Somcha Lowang attended the event.
